Save Over 25% on Your Thanksgiving Staples by Switching to the Store Brand
Brandefy is all about saving you money without sacrificing on quality. Your Thanksgiving meal should be as strong as ever, and it shouldn’t break the bank. We’ve tested staples from three different retailers - Kroger, Target, and Walmart. On the menu: green bean casserole, cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, crescent rolls, cranberry sauce, yams with marshmallows, and pumpkin pie. Here’s the dish on the top performers!
Best Green Beans: Target’s Market Pantry Cut Green Beans.
At 93% similar to Del Monte, we thought these were flavorful and had a great texture. Snag these for a savings of $0.40/can. That’s almost half off the name brand!
Best Cream of Mushroom Soup: Kroger Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup
The other cream of mushroom soups were way too heavy on the mushroom. The Kroger soup is similar to Campbell’s in that it balances the mushroom and cream flavors nicely. Switch to save a third off the price of Campbell’s.
Best Crispy Fried Onions: Walmart’s Great Value Fried Onions
French’s onions did reign supreme across crispiness and saltiness, but Great Value gets close at 81% similar.
Best Stuffing: Kroger Cornbread Stuffing
Stovetop has nothing on Kroger. Testers thought the Kroger stuffing had a better texture and more seasoning than Stove Top. Saving money AND getting the superior product? That’s a no-brainer.
Best Chicken Broth: Kroger’s Simple Truth Low Sodium Chicken Broth
Again, testers PREFERRED the store brand to the name brand, Pacific Foods. Go ahead and pour it into your Kroger stuffing for a flavorful dish.
Best Instant Mashed Potatoes: Great Value Instant Mashed Potatoes
While the Idahoan potatoes were the preferred potato over all the store brands, Great Value puts up a good fight with its smooth texture and buttery flavor. Plus, you can save a dollar making the switch.
Best Butter: Kroger Spreadable Butter with Canola Oil
This butter compares to Land O Lakes, and it actually has a sweet cream taste, that Land O Lakes lacks. We gave it a similarity score of 84%.
Best of Gravy: Great Value Turkey Gravy
We PREFERRED this over the Heinz turkey gravy. It tastes natural, like a real gravy. The Heinzy tastes like chemicals
Best Rolls: Store Brands Knock it out of the Park!
Of all the store brand crescents we tried, we preferred the store brand over Pillsbury every time. Sorry Pillsbury, but you need to up your game before we up our spend. The store brands are more buttery and flakier.
Best Cranberry Sauce: Great Value Jellied Cranberry Sauce
We liked the way this moved and jiggled! We also like the way it tastes, and at 93% similar to Ocean Spray, we’re on board for saving $0.40/can!
Best Yams: Kroger Sweet Potatoes in Syrup
Testers thought the Kroger yams were sweeter and softer than Bruce’s yams- perfect for a sweet dessert!
Best Marshmallows: Market Pantry Mini Marshmallows
These hold up well to jet-puffed and give you a true marshmallow taste, plus they’re just a little bigger, which is great for casserole coverage.
Best Pumpkin: Stick to the Name Brand
We only found store brand pumpkin at Kroger and it was way more liquidy than the Libby’s pumpkin. It reminded us of baby food- yuck! We have previously tested Publix canned pumpkin, and we recommend trying the Publix pumpkin out. It’s a great dupe!
Best Pie Crust: Great Value Ready to Bake Pie Crust
At 98% similar, we thought this crust was almost identical to Pillsbury. Switch to save some cash!
Best Whipped Topping: Market Pantry Original Whipped Topping
Top your pie off with some savings! Testers thought these whips were very similar, they noted the name brand is slightly sweeter and the store brand has more marshmallow flavor. They still thought this was a very good dupe!
Whether you look forward to the meal, the parade, or football the most, we think you’ll LOVE saving with these quality store brand dupes. Save money on the meal, so you can do the things you love with the people you love. Brandefy is thankful for you!
