Super Bowl Party: Saving with Store Brands
Who will you be cheering for on February 3? If you’re anything like me, you watch solely for the commercials and the halftime show, but that’s neither here nor there. We’re serving you some snack savings from WalMart’s Great Value and Target’s Market Pantry brand (we’re not paid by anyone for these reviews). See our tailgating with Aldi guide here.
Castleberry’s Hot Dog Chili Sauce vs. Great Value Hot Dog Chili Sauce
The store brand in this comparison had a slightly thicker texture with a more sour tomato taste, which testers agreed were more desirable qualities for a hot dog chili sauce. They would switch to save.
Oscar Mayer Classic Uncured Franks vs. Market Pantry Original Franks
Testers PREFERRED the Market Pantry franks because they felt they had a meatier taste and texture.
Bush’s Original Baked Beans vs. Great Value Original Baked Beans
This comparison is based mostly on preference as testers had differing opinions. If you like a sweeter, brown sugar taste to your baked beans then the store brand is a solid choice. However, if you like more of a smoked smell and flavor then stick with the name brand.
Ore-Ida Golden Crinkles French Fried Potatoes vs. Market Pantry Crispy Crinkle Cut Fries
Both testers would switch to save, and they PREFERRED the Market Pantry fries. The Market Pantry has more flavor and crisped up better on the edges in our opinion.
Pop Secret Premium 94% Fat Free Popcorn vs. Market Pantry Light Butter Microwave Popcorn
Switch to save! The Market Pantry popcorn has a slightly saltier taste but is very close to Pop Secrets 94% Fat free Butter popcorn.
Diet Coke vs. Sam’s Diet Cola
Testers who prefer Diet Dr Pepper noted a sweeter, cherry taste in the store brand. If you aren't an avid Dr Pepper drinker and don't mind a sweeter version then the store brand will satisfy your craving. If you are an avid DDP drinker, stick with the name brand.
