Kat Von D Ink Well Liner vs. NYX Matte Liquid Eyeliner

Makeup Maven, Kayla, says: Kat Von D Ink Well Eyeliner in “Trooper Black” is $20 for 2ml while NYX Matte Liquid Eyeliner in “Black” is about $7 for 2ml. Kat Von D is a felt tip while NYX is a brush tip. I actually think I get a better line using KVD’s eyeliner but that’s because I actually prefer a felt tip. I feel like I have a bit more control. KVD does have cooler packaging than NYX in my opinion - it reminds me of a quill for calligraphy. Both products are easy & comfortable to hold during application. Just like a quill pen, I had to dip KVD into the tube a few times (and when I say few I mean 3-4 times per eye!) during application because the felt tip doesn’t seem to absorb much product during application or it dries in the tip before I can get it onto my lid. So, I am stopping often to dip the tip in the bottle which is kind of frustrating. Both are black matte eyeliners - and this definitely is true but NYX is far more pigmented. KVD almost looks slightly gray once applied on my top lid. Both brands claim they are long wearing & smudge proof. I wore each brand on each one of my eyes for several days to test this theory for different lengths and both brands stood up very well. By the end of the day my eyeliner looked just as good as it did when I first applied it. I have hooded eyes and neither brand transferred. KVD does dry down a lot quicker during application while NYX needed a bit longer. Both brands were easy to take off with a simple “Makeup Eraser” type cloth at the end of the day. In the end there are a few differences - especially with the pigmentation and the felt/brush tip. But I would choose NYX over KVD due to the better pigmentation and less dips in the bottle to line both eyes. If you’ve been wanting a matte eyeliner - definitely give NYX a try! Buy our pick
